Event Description

Matthew Flinders landed on Coochie on July 19, 1799. His ship was the 'Norfolk' and he was accompanied by his cat, Trim. Matthew suggested the name 'Australia'. Coochie was originally called "Innes Island" but reverted back to the aboriginal name in Quandamokka language.  We affectionately call the island "Coochie". Each year the locals celectrate Matthews arrival with markets, parades and a re-enactment around 11:45am.  There is a ferry from Vicky Point to Coochy around every 30 minutes.  This is a 10 min journey, so family members could come too. Check out the link below for a program of the day.
