Event Description

Kids' Onkaparinga River Kayaking (KORK)

KORK is a 'learn to kayak' program over 4 days for 11-15 year olds which is designed to teach basic kayaking safety and techniques in a fun environment. Those paddlers who complete the 4 day course will receive a 'Paddle Oz' certificate and can then take part in mini-expeditions the following week - either up the river towards Old Noarlunga, or an amazing paddle in the Coorong National Park.

Each session is based around games and challenges, but also has an educational aspect as bullet points about the history of the river, cultural and flora/fauna learnings will be discussed along the way, too.

Each session starts at 10am and runs for 2 hours. The mini-expeditions also start at 10am but run for 3 hours.

The 4 day 'learn to kayak' program must be completed before taking part in the Mini Expeditions.

A suitable kayak, paddle and PFD (life jacket) will be provided (and insurance) and sessions are led by a Paddle Australia-certified Instructor. A list of suitable clothing and other requirements will be emailed to you upon booking.

The KORK program is part of the national 'Paddle Oz' initiative which provides a pathway for kayaking development, from basic skills through to specialised disciplines such as sea kayaking, sprint or marathon kayaking, canoe polo, flat water (river) and others, and is an ideal way to introduce children to the various kayaking sports in a safe and fun way.

Parents are also welcome to get involved too! If you would like to do some paddling at the same time, please tick the box and we will be in touch.

KORK is a joint initiative between Adelaide Canoe Club and the City of Onkaparinga's Leadership Program.
